One mustn't become confused over the booing at the end of a game or at half time. It's a way of expressing disappointment, nothing more, nothing less. Personally, I prefer to express my disappointment by muttering obscenities under my breath and then launch into a full blown debate about "what went wrong" with the bunch I attend matches with. I'd prefer not to hear booing obviously but MoN shouldn't take it so personally. It's our way of telling to team to pull their collective finger's out because we're not happy.

Yesterday we were poor with flashes of brilliance. For a team with ambitions of finishing fourth and entering the Champions League, we should be beating teams like Wolves... and Stoke! And when we don't, how can I express my disappointment? Clap?

Godzvilla,

Obviously you are entitled to have your opinion, and you are also entitled to express your disopintment however you like, and I agree yesterday we were poor!

But lets not forget that Wolves beat Spurs earlier on in the season, they didn't manage to beat us. I've got a feeling that had the fans not turned on MON yesterday and chanting for the Fonz he may have made an appearence. I'm not saying that we didn't need him, it was plainly obvious that we needed some pace because big John Carew and Heskey didn't have that good a game together, they are too similar. We needed the Fonz to give us a different option. The problem is that if MON put the Fonz on after the fans were calling for it, it would appear that he has been dictated to by us, and there is no way that he will do that.

We haven't blown 4th yet, we have a game in hand on Spurs and are only 5 points behind. They stil have the top 3 to play. All Villa fans want sucess, but it is not going to be immediate. Lets get behind the team on Wednesday night and make ourselves the 12th man to get the three points that we need.

Can't argue with a word of that!

A couple of seasons ago, to go 0-2 down would have seen half the crowd walk out, but THIS season, we just shrug and have the belief that it's just a blip. It's just Villa doing it the hard way! Games against Blackburn in the Carling Cup semi-final and Reading in the FA Cup are a couple of examples!

The fans this season have been outstanding and I include myself in that category as I left Wembley with a throat so raw it was bleeding! There is no place at Villa Park, or any other ground for that matter where Villa fans boo Villa. I hate it and an anger wells up inside me when I hear it, but they're just disappointed.

I'm old enough to remember the third division days. The relegation seasons under Billy Mcfuckinneill and Graham Turner!! In those days we used to boo the team onto the pitch at the beginning of the game!!! (just kidding) - But you know what I mean. The youngsters of today have never experienced a REALLY bad season, only bad games within a season. Forgive them, they're still young :vhappy:

I can't make it to Villa Park on Wednesday as I'm working, but my heart will be at Villa Park and my support will have to be in the throats of others.... Don't let me down!

To be fair Heskey does some good work linking up play and tbh Carew seems much happier playing alongside him. He seems to get frustrated a lot when playing up front with Gabby. His recent hat-trick and yesterdays double has come when he has partnered Heskey.

I remember a couple of seasons back when Carew scored that second half hat-trick against Newcastle and MON described him as unplayable, Gabby did not play at all that day and it was Marlon Harewood who came on at half time to pair up with Carew.

As for the booing, I think even MON might boo if he had to pay to watch some of the rubbish we’ve played recently (just like the last few months of last season) and for once I’d like him to be honest and perhaps even say that he doesn’t blame us for showing our disappointment. We have a multi-million pound squad of internationals on massive salaries paid for by us fans. For him to come out after the match and again blast the fans and say that he is full of admiration for the players considering how many games that they’ve had to play and also insist that we played ‘scintillating football’ yesterday is slightly embarrassing

Thanks for the replies.

I agree with the Heskey comments stating he is what he is, a holding striker. He set up or had a part in both goals yesterday which earned a point for our club. Yet after that all I heard was he was a lazy this or that, he's shiza, he's useless and this is where I sit in the Holte. It's true Carew and Heskey are too similar to warrant an attacking threat, I would have been happy for Fonz to come on for the flick ons and play three up front but it didn't happen.

At home this season we have lost to Liverpool (dubiously) and Wigan on the first day, other then that we are unbeaten at home. Away from home we've only lost three games (Arsenal, West Ham and Blackburn) which signals to me we're actually quite a good team, only losing five games means we're one of three teams in the league to have lost five or less.

If that deserves booing then, please boo away.

If anything the fact we have drawn eleven games signals we need a striker but we already know this is an area that O'Neill needs to invest in and he WILL this summer. Maybe then we can realistically think about Champions League qualification.

Somebody said on here earlier that booing is the only way that fans can express disappointment and I agree. In order to be disappointed you have to be optimistic in the first place and to be fair to MON he is the man has given Villa fans this new optimism.

I’ve noticed that booing usually occurs when Villa fans are upset by a number of things at the same time, not just one issue. And it’s usually a spontaneous action. I didn’t boo yesterday but I can fully understand those that did just as long as it doesn’t start to happen every time things wrong.

The support has been brilliant again this season and I personally think MON should have taken yesterdays reaction on the chin. However, I am worried that by again coming out with sarcastic comments he might be creating bigger divisions between himself and some sections of the fans.

I booed after the Wigan game on the opening day of the season and that’s the one and only time I’ve done it under MON. It was a spur of the moment thing and even though no one ever admits to it on these forums I was one of many thousands who did it. I pay my money like everybody else and I don’t feel the need to apologise for it.

The fans were booing because they were frustrated by Wolves taking over the game and being 1.2 up and Villa's hopes of that elusive 4th place vanishing. Not only that, the subs made by MON werent exactly abitious. Yes, I agree Emile Heskey does a lot for the team but at the end of the day he is supposed to be a striker and at the moment (since he arrived) he's a striker who doesnt strike!

Most Villa fans were shouting for the Fonz to get on the pitch when it was clear Heskey wasnt going to produce much and yes, I did see him pass the ball to Sidwell (I also saw him miss a sitter!!!) and Big John touch it in but we want that bit more. Before someone says we're punching above our weight, why didnt Delofouseo get on and why doesnt he? Its not hindsight, most of us want to see an England u21 goal scorer play and score for Villa. Emile Heskey can be quality but he's not scoring and isn't likely too. When it happens game in game out, we have a superb, fast, young, goal scorer who the fans want to see play.

Mr O'Neill probably said what he did in the heat of the moment, straight after the game but he shouldnt be critical of the people that pay his wages and the players which I suspect, are slighlty more than ours! The fans were at Villa Park long before MON wore a claret and blue tie and will be there long after. We all want the same thing...success for Villa, so lets try and stick together!

but do you also want him thrown around like a sack of spuds ? Because that was what would likely happened to him against Wolves . Off ball both Carew & Heskey had that treatment and the Fonz has yet to learn to deal with such treatment would have suffered more of the same . Is that what you wanted to watch , because it was unlikely that he`d have performed as you expect him to do with such treatment .
Remember we don`t now have the Rioch bros. or similar to "protect " young players the way they were able to

cgale_825 - If the Fonz getting on the pitch and Villa getting all three points was the price to pay for him getting roughed up a bit and learning his trade, then yes I'd have accepted that. He's 19 not 16 and hasa represented his country and scored. I'd accept the point if Emile was scoring but our defence doesnt need his help nor does the midfield and he's employed as a striker whio doesnt strike!

I accept that he (sometimes) holds the ball up etc etc but if Villa had a striker even comparable to Gabby in 'actually scoring' we'd be competeing for the title virtually instead of battling for the 4th spot. Heskey is forever falling over and getting roughed up anyway. I think if he showed more bottle and determination he'd be scoring the goals we're all crying out for!

but how much bottle does Heskey have to show it seems as if only the ultimate sacrifice would satiffy some fans !
As for my comments about the Fonz I still don`t think that he would have faired any better than the 2 strikers we had on the pitch against wolves AND yes I did say 2 !!! Because it took TEAM effort to get the 2 goals Carew needed a lot of help to get the 2 goals and much of that came from Heskey who might not be putting goals away but he sure as hell is putting in a lot of effort in to ensure others do !!

How dare the fans boo O'Neill. He is the best thing to happen in this club in recent years. When he came, we had finished the league in 16th with 42 pts, a number of points that teams have been relegated with in previous seasons. Yet he has built up a great team, got us to the semi final of the fa cup, final of the carling cup (which we were cheated out of), to the europa league, and has had us pushing for champions league football. We are pushing him towards the exit and that would be a disaster for our club.
